Zig-Zag Hoops

Here's another pair of hoop earrings, a very simple geometric design this time.

These ones are designed to hang perpendicular to the ears, face on to the world.

They're available in bronze or silver at http://shpws.me/QBIk

Clockwork Hoop Earrings

I designed another pair of earrings to be 3d printed and cast by Shapeways.

The diameter of the main body of the earring is about 25mm.

They're available in raw or polished bronze or silver at http://shpws.me/QBFl

Monogram Earrings

This is my first design for earrings in quite a while. I'm figuring out how build customized monogrammed pieces, within the printing, casting and polishing limitations of Shapeways' process.

It feels good to be back in the 3d-design mines again.

These ones are available at Shapeways at http://shpws.me/QuUn

Realistically, unless your initials, or those of you and your main squeeze are AF, they're probably not going to be quite the thing for you. I'm trying to figure out some method of making them user-configurable, but I suspect, considering the palaver involved in getting everything aligned and overlapped for printing, it will have to be done manually. Still, with two letters, there's less than a thousand possible combinations. How long could that take?

New earrings, in the flesh

These just arrived on my doorstep from Shapeways — my most recent earring design.

These ones have been produced in their Raw Bronze material, and I'm pretty happy with the way they've turned out.

They can be had at https://www.shapeways.com/product/KPPBBKAES/filligree-cone-earrings

Earrings — With Hooks! For the Ears!

Shapeways can now print and cast interlinked metal objects, which means that I can now add integral hooks to my earrings.

These are my first try at it, and they're available at http://shpws.me/MKEa — just in rose gold and rose gold plate at present; I'm trying to find out why the other metals I've selected have been tagged as unprintable, in spite of the model complying with all their printing guidelines.

Moebius Racing Strip

I think this is a pendant, though if I added a couple of loops for a pin it could be a brooch I suppose. I'm a bit reluctant to pollute the purity of the edges with those sorts of shenanigans though.

It's a Moebius strip with little teensy-tiny racing cars on it. I've made it available in rose-gold plate, polished bronze, and silver.

It's available for sale at http://shpws.me/MAgC

Flower Cup Brooch

This is a brooch. A 3d-printed cast metal brooch.

It has no fastening pin of its own, but there are two loops on the back which allow it to be attached with a hat-pin or the like.

Splash Whirlpool Pendant

This time I'm trying my hand at a pendant. It's not large, only 40mm or so in diameter.

The pendant is upside-down in this render, but being a symmetrical object that doesn't really matter too much.

The loop has a 4mm opening, so it's large enough to accommodate a leather thong or a reasonable sized chain.

Regarding jewellery...

I quite enjoy designing jewellery, and I get plenty of compliments about the pieces I've done so far, but nobody — or almost nobody — is willing to actually part with any money for them. I feel like I'm bashing my head against a brick wall.

What actually sells are my toy tanks and stuff. So I think I'll just concentrate on that.

Screw the arty-farty stuff, show me the benjamins!

Note: I don't actually know which note has Benjamin Franklin on it. Is it the fifty? Perhaps I should just have said "show me the Sir Apirana Ngatas!"

A new lot of jewellery arrived on my doorstop today from Shapeways, after being held up and expensified by Customs.

There are some bracelets too, which I got printed cheaply in plastic to make sure that they'd fit before ordering them in much more expensive metal.

Bracelet

Old! Busted!
Here's my first go at a bracelet design.

It's available in raw or polished bronze, or in rose-gold plated brass.

It's at http://shpws.me/Mtr8

Welp....

New! Improved!
Turns out my original design was too flimsy and puny to print, so I've had to redesign it. I pulled in an element from a pair of earrings I'd done before (my very first pair, in fact) to make this version.

When you gaze into the earring, the earring gazes back at you

Egg cups? Candle-snuffers? Parabolic microphones? Whatever you think they look like, they're definitely earrings.
You can get them in a range of metals at http://shpws.me/Mm72

Sphere-Cage

More earrings!

This is a very simple openwork sphere, about 15mm in diameter, with a twisted faceted stem. I've stuck with flat surfaces as far as possible to maximize bling-glitter.

They're available at http://shpws.me/Mks1

Spindle earrings

These are a variation on my Flytrap earrings.

They're smaller overall, with a more prominent dish to the disk, and a shorter and slightly beefier stalk.

They're available at http://shpws.me/MhRp

This is my latest earring design.

They're about 27mm long, including the loops. This is Shapeways rose-gold material render.
