Prisma

I installed Prisma on my tablet, and it looks like a moderately fun toy until the novelty wears off. But just a toy. Not that toys aren't good — toys are great, but they're not tools.

Composition filter

Get Urban (I think)

Heisenberg

Wave
I expect we'll be seeing some semi-automated comix coming out using some of these. The Heisenberg  and Get Urban filters look especially useful in that regard, though the more painterly filters will no doubt also be useful.

There are a decent range of filter available for it, but your level of control over the effects is very limited — you can pretty much only control the degree to which the filter distorts the source photo, by the look of it.

I wouldn't mind being able to play with it on my Windows PC, but there's a certain amount of faffing about that has to be done to enable that, and I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Winter Weekend Quiz Doodles

Quiz Doodle #01

Quiz Doodle #02
We had a quiz. There were mathematical questions, about which I was pretty much all at sea except for knowing what a milliard is. So, while the rest of the team were pouring out knowledge, I was doodling. These are those doodles.

Mortice Gauge

I was given this beautiful old mortice gauge as a birthday present a couple of years ago. I've just given it a bit of a clean and polish.

I think its made from rosewood, well aged by the years until now it's almost as dark as ebony.

You won't find anything as nice as this at Bunnings.

Bracelet

Old! Busted!
Here's my first go at a bracelet design.

It's available in raw or polished bronze, or in rose-gold plated brass.

It's at http://shpws.me/Mtr8

Welp....

New! Improved!
Turns out my original design was too flimsy and puny to print, so I've had to redesign it. I pulled in an element from a pair of earrings I'd done before (my very first pair, in fact) to make this version.

Workbench modification for long-planing

I can't believe this hasn't been thought of before, but I just thought of it, so yay me.

If you have a woodworking bench with a well, a series of dog-holes staggered down the centre line will allow you to use the dogs to wedge a plank up against one of the lips of the well, holding it securely along its entire length.

It wouldn't be absolutely necessary that the walls of your well be perfectly square, but obviously that would be the ideal case.

Bling Tray

I made Annette a little tray to keep her current crop of favourite earrings in.

The timber is rimu, from an old desk I dismantled and reclaimed a few years ago. The pattern around the border of the central cavity is left over from the Forstner bit I used to hog it out, and I'm in two minds about leaving it — I don't find it too offensive, but it wouldn't take all that long to scrape it out if I decide to get rid of it (though I'd have to make a scraper for the job).
